Application for admission

To be accepted to a cégep, you must have passed eleven years of study in your country of origin. Certain cégep programs have prerequisites, that is, subjects or courses you need to have studied and passed. The information page about each program of study will tell you what these prerequisites are.

The regional admissions service will establish the equivalency between your academic level and the one that is required for cégep admission. The cégep is the final decision-maker regarding admissions. The cégep is also responsible for granting (or refusing) course equivalencies according to the level of schooling completed by students in their country of origin.

Admission is based on your application file. The fee for analysing your file is $85 (CAD), non-refundable. Refer to the regional admission service website to see which modes of payment are accepted. Your file will be processed once you have completed the online application, paid the fee, and sent all required documentation.

• For the fall semester beginning in August, submit your application before March 1st.
• For the winter semester beginning in January, submit your application before August 31.

After these dates, the offer of programs may differ.

Important: if you will be starting your studies in the winter term, the total length of your program of study could be extended. This is because certain essential courses may not be offered during the winter term, in which case you would have to take them the following autumn term. If you have any questions about this, check with your target cégep.

A French competency test is required for some candidates, depending on the situation declared on the application.

• If a French test IS required as one of your application’s required documents, consult the website of your cégep’s regional admission service to see which tests they accept:
  • If your cégep is part of the SRAM, see the “Language test” section here.
  • If your cégep is part of the SRACQ, visit the page “Test de connaissance de la langue française”
  • If your cégep is part of the SRASL, go to their page “Language Test” here.
• If a French test is NOT required, your grades in your French classes must be above the passing threshold for you to be admitted to a francophone cégep in Quebec.

There are three different admission services; each cégep is represented by the service for its geographical region: SRAM (Service régional d’admission du Montréal métropolitain), SRACQ (Service régional d’admission au collégial de Québec) et SRASL (Service régional de l’admission des cégeps du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean).
