Program code: 412AB
Program Objectives
The Office System Technology program consists of one common core and two specialization options. The Office Work Coordination specialization trains individuals to become office work coordinators while the Micropublishing and Hypermedia specialization trains individuals to work as micropublishing and hypermedia technicians.
Specialization B: Micropublishing and Hypermedia is focused on the development of technical skills, both with relation to computer tools and to the writing and linguistic treatment of texts. Micropublishing and hypermedia technicians handle the graphic design and layout of various types of documents including training manuals, forms, reports, advertising documents and newsletters (internal or otherwise). They also design and produce lively presentations by integrating text, images, video and sound as well as hypermedia documents such as Web pages. These individuals must also perform various tasks involving document content. Mastery of French and sufficient knowledge of English is therefore a requirement.
Part of their job includes providing technical support and acting as resources for their colleagues and superiors. Being creative is a necessity, as they must produce original and engaging documents which help to convey the company’s image. They must enjoy working in a computerized environment subject to frequent technical changes; because they are likely to be tasked with large workloads and tight deadlines, they must be able to effectively manage their time and deal with stress. Needless to say, this field of work requires a great deal of availability, excellent organizational skills, a heightened sense of esthetics and attention to detail.
