Here, teaching is focused on the practical aspects. The groups are small, and the teachers have time to answer our questions.
Martin Belporo, from Cameroon
Information Technology student
“ I came from Cameroon in the winter of 2015 to study Information Technology at Cégep Beauce-Appalaches. By choosing a CEGEP outside of a major urban centre, I obtained an exemption which allowed me to pay the same tuition fees as Quebec students.
Living in student residence allowed me to make friends quickly. I’m a member of the Condors soccer team and a stage technician for the sociocultural club’s shows. I also like to watch Condor football and volleyball matches.
Here, teaching is focused on the practical aspects. The groups are small, and the teachers have time to answer our questions. Student-teacher relations are very cordial, and the teachers are always available. We sometimes even get to ask questions when casually meeting a teacher in the hallway.
My time in Beauce has allowed me to discover a new culture without having to learn another language. Plus, I find some Beauce expressions really funny… ”
Here, we have the opportunity to create life experiences that we will remember forever!
Marie Ravelet, from Réunion Island
Accounting and Management Technology Student
“ I chose Cégep de La Pocatière for its reputation and its Accounting and Management Technology school. To my delight, I discovered a whole life experience, and teachers who cared about my well-being and wanted me to succeed!
On a personal level, I was able to discover Canada’s beautiful landscapes and open spaces, as well as the possibility of traveling throughout the continent. Everything was at my fingertips. A few months after my arrival, I was able to experience my first white Christmas in the snow! What a magical experience! Here, we have the opportunity to create life experiences that we will remember forever!
For anyone interested in trying this adventure, a word of advice: don’t hide inside all winter, but rather make the most of the numerous activities Quebec has to offer! ”
The CEGEP’s orientation activities and the friendliness of everyone I came across allowed me to make many friends and integrate easily.
Abdallah Anthoumani, from Reunion Island
Urban Planning Student
“ I came from Reunion Island in 2013 to study Urban Planning at Cégep de Jonquière in Quebec. Having never left Reunion Island before, I was immediately charmed by the Saguenay’s open spaces. When I arrived, everything was new and I didn’t have any points of reference, but the CEGEP’s orientation activities and the friendliness of everyone I came across allowed me to make many friends and integrate easily. My new living environment makes me think of a big family composed of my friends and teachers.
After I finish my studies, I would like to stay in Quebec to go to university or to find a job. I will never regret my experience living in Quebec. It has been a wonderful adventure! ”
Susana Serrano, from Mexico
Diploma in Tourism
Susana Serrano received her tourism diploma from Cégep de Saint-Félicien in 2014. She faced many challenges, living far away from her family and learning a foreign language, but her college studies helped her discover that anything was possible!
“I loved winter!”
“My experience in Quebec was life-defining for me.”
The school system is great. Students are valued. I’m happy here.
Olivia Carpin, from Reunion Island
Early Childhood Education Student
“ My name is Olivia Carpin. I am a first-year student in Early Childhood Education at Cégep de la Gaspésie et des Îles. The city of Gaspé reminds me of Reunion Island, with its forests and sea. Even though I haven’t been here long, I’ve adapted quickly. The people here are very open. Everyone knows everyone else, and everyone is interested in getting to know you.
The CEGEP is located in the heart of downtown. Everything you could possibly need is available close by, whether it’s consumer goods or activities. I particularly appreciate the access to sports activities right next to the student residence. The intercultural club is a place where students of different nationalities can come together, where meeting people and connecting with other students is easy. ”
I didn’t have any trouble adapting, since I established strong friendships with other students.
Rawane Thioye Ndiaye, from Senegal
Building Mechanical Systems Technology Student
“ After finishing my baccalauréat in experimental science (s2 series) in Senegal, my parents decided to send me to Canada to further my studies, since Canada offers some of the best academic programs in the world. I chose Building Mechanical Systems Technology, a really interesting program.
Being immersed in a completely different culture, acclimatizing to a new lifestyle, and accepting new ways of thinking and doing things that are often opposite to what we’re used to is a wonderful experience that allows you to grow, to keep questioning your beliefs and become more open to others.
Cégep de Trois-Rivières organized a welcoming committee for our arrival. One of the things I noticed about this country is just how welcoming Canadians are. I didn’t have any trouble adapting, since I established strong friendships with other students. Studying in Canada is an experience that has been beneficial for me in a personal capacity as well as a professional one. I got the chance to visit cities like Montreal, Québec, Sherbrooke and Edmonton. All in all, if I had to evaluate my experience, I would say that this period of my life is one of the best I have ever had. ”
Meeting new people, opening my horizons, improving my self-confidence and learning about a new culture are just a few examples of the perks of this rewarding experience.
Julien Pellat, from France
Information Technology Student
“ I met my girlfriend in France, my homeland. She is from Valleyfield, and right away, I wanted to get to know her part of the country. I already had an accounting training, but I wanted to explore information technology. I was told that Collège de Valleyfield was a very good CEGEP, so I took the plunge and registered for their Information Technology program!
I was very well greeted, and I got the impression that the college was very welcoming to students of all origins. I immediately felt at home.
Apart from my courses, I also had the chance to perfect my knowledge by signing up for internships in real businesses. Meeting new people, opening my horizons, improving my self-confidence and learning about a new culture are just a few examples of the perks of this rewarding experience.
Once I’m done studying, I would like to stay in Quebec, because this is where I can be with the girl who changed my life! ”
