Program Objectives
The Office System Technology program consists of one common core and two specialization options. The Office Work Coordination specialization trains individuals to become office work coordinators while the Micropublishing and Hypermedia specialization trains individuals to work as micropublishing and hypermedia technicians.
Specialization A: Office Work Coordination focuses on the development of management and interpersonal skills. Office work coordinators are generally entrusted with management tasks, specifically planning, organizing, supervising and evaluating the work done by an office department team. These individuals can also work for senior staff members, in which case they generally act as intermediaries between management and the employees they oversee. In addition to mastering French and having a sufficient knowledge of English, coordinators must also exercise a great deal of discretion and flexibility, and be widely available. Part of their tasks may include counselling personnel regarding situations of interpersonal conflict or personal problems. As such, they must be constantly attentive to the needs of the staff they are responsible for, and ensure they remain tactful and open minded. Coordinators may be called upon to resolve technical and organizational problems and most companies consider their leadership essential to mobilizing and motivating employees. Lastly, these individuals must enjoy working in a computerized environment subject to frequent technical changes and must be able to easily adapt to new software programs and IT environments.
