Program objectives
Graduates of this program are prepared to handle design/drawing, production management and supervising tasks in the furniture making and architectural millwork industry. They work in small, medium or large companies either in the area of industrial and commercial woodworking, woodworking design or the manufacturing of indoor and outdoor furniture.
They can work in various areas of specialty ranging from creating wood furniture to the ornamentation of metal furniture to the building of commercial spaces, restaurants, condominiums, concert halls and high-end customized interiors (planes, boats and motorized vehicles), to name a few.
Professional skills based on profile
Specialization A, Mass Production (This particular path of study will not be available in 2016): individuals who complete this specialization have the skills and knowledge required to design furniture, templates and cutting tools, use equipment effectively, program numerical control machines, estimate costs and supervise personnel. They help optimize production through planning, quality control and various methods of production management. They can also be called upon to take part in research and development, and help organize a mass production run. They also produce solid wood furniture, wood panel products, upholstered furniture as well as windows and doors.
Specialization B, Architectural Woodworking: individuals who complete this specialization have the skills and knowledge required to design furniture, estimate costs, program numerical control machines and supervise personnel. They are specialized in technical design and creating elements for a custom build. They are also capable of coordinating projects and overseeing them through the various stages of production, from conception to planning, building and quality control.
