This program trains individuals to become professional actors capable of dealing with the demands of putting on a public performance of theatrical creations and works from Quebec and abroad in different venues and locations. It trains them to be multi-dimensional, able to understand a particular work and the intentions of its author as well as play a character and skillfully interpret a text.
Actors must learn to play different roles, progressively get into the mind of their characters, practise their lines and perform with sensitivity, intelligence and enjoyment. They must stay up to date on changes in the world of theatre and art, broaden their personal knowledge and culture, and remain open to new artistic trends and ideas. They also have to meet the physical and technical requirements of the role they are playing. It is their responsibility to preserve and diligently enhance their mastery of technical performance.
Theatre acting always involves creativity, curiosity and passion. Actors must be able to work with others and collaborate with different stage partners. Among other things, they must accept being instructed by a director and his assistants. Those who work in this profession must respect their commitments and have a heightened sense of esthetics. The capacity to reflect, courage, audacity, an independent spirit, respect and initiative are all highly sought-after qualities in an actor.
